I’m not a biologist, but I’m going to discuss a concept in evolutionary psychology anyway. The Red Queen Hypothesis, proposed by (actual) biologist Leigh Van Valen, suggests species must constantly adapt and evolve to maintain their ecosystem status. This idea draws its name from Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass,” where the Red Queen tells Alice: “Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.”
